In 1981 the Margerum Family purchased an existing wine & beer making and combination wine store that had been in business for about five years. We quickly built an adjacent wine tasting and light foods wine bar in the adjoining studio which would become the award winning WINE CASK restaurant. Serving over forty wines by the glass with imaginative plates of food, the small space (37 seats) became popular with downtown business folks and food and wine savvy travelers. WINE CASK was also the first wine store to actively promote Santa Barbara County wines with tastings, dinners, and newsletters. We began a futures program where consumers could purchase the finest and rarest Santa Barbara wines and Wine Cask private label wines on futures, with discounts of 20 to 30 percent. Santa Barbara Wine Futures 2003 will offer worldwide, 120 rare and limited production wines from the best wineries in the area. WINE CASK Catering started in 1984 and today we provide catering services at a variety of locations as well as off site catering. Catering for five to five hundred - we are the premier caterer in the area. In 1991 we expanded the wine store and moved the restaurant across the hall to the beautiful gold room dining room with 80 seats inside and 40 seats on the patio. In 1997 we opened Intermezzo, a lounge, bar, and light foods establishment next to the patio. In 1993 the restaurant received the Wine Spectator Grand Award and has received the award every year since. WINE CASK sells rare and fine wines throughout the world with access to the finest wines at competitive price on the World Wide Web since 1996.
Since 2002, Intermezzo also serves as the Margerum Wine Co. Tasting Room. From 11am — 3pm every day patrons can wine taste the Wine Cask, Magerum, and MWC label wines.
